Jesus as Our Advocate

Jesus is presented as an advocate and sponsor, serving as a legal representative who argues a client's case and covers their expenses, vouching for them and providing credentials for access. The central message is that the Kingdom of God is a hidden kingdom, accessible because "we've got a man on the inside: Jesus our advocate". This kingdom is not found on any map but only through someone originally from it.

Religious leaders of Jesus's time mistakenly believed their family heritage (children of Abraham) and adherence to the Law of Moses (Torah) guaranteed entry. However, Abraham and Moses cannot advocate in the same way as Jesus, who is the original inhabitant of the kingdom. Jesus asserts his supremacy and control, even when chief priests and Pharisees send officers to arrest him, indicating his authority and kingdom reign supreme over theirs.

To enter this hidden kingdom, one must:

1. Recognize Jesus as their supreme treasure.

2. Sense the urgency of their need for him, as his time on earth is short.

3. Prioritize relationship with him over earthly comforts or achievements, understanding that he is the treasure, not just a means to it.

Jesus warns, "you will seek me and you will not find me where I am you cannot come". This refers to two things: people will seek the wrong kind of Messiah (an earthly deliverer from Roman oppression) and they will seek him too late, after death or during God's wrath. The Kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom, present "here and now," and current rejection prevents access. Ultimately, it is about simple belief and trust in Jesus, not earning a spot.
